The roughed out carving assembled on my workshop floor to check the fitting and flow of the carving across the joints. Donegal sandstone is not a pleasant stone to work in, ruining many chisels and diamond cutting blades

Limited available stone sizes made jointing a major challenge around the ornament, to avoid feather edges and weak sections

The finished carving set within dark grey Kilkenny limestone pediment surround
